Equity and Inclusive Education

There is a significant body of work on each of the three equity issues addressed by this Professional Learning Module, resulting in an abundance of reference texts, websites for parents and professionals, tool kit, resources and manuals for use with teens.

Increasingly, these issues are being addressed in the school context, engendering the creation of a wide range of resources that are particularly relevant for teachers. The resources included here are not exhaustive in any way. They have been compiled to give the user an overview of the type of resource materials available.

Our resource section is divided into four main sections, containing materials and resources on each of the following specific issues:

  • Sexism and Violence against Women and Girls
  • Racism
  • Homophobia and Gender-Based Discrimination
  • General (this section contains resources and materials that address issues relevant to the area of equity and inclusion)

Within each section, you will find a further breakdown into the following subsections:

  • Articles, Reports and Essays provide a theoretical overview and sensitization on the issues.
  • Tool Kit and Activities are intended for teachers to use with their students.
  • Resources for Youth offer suggested materials for youth to use independently

Suggestions for Teachers

Addressing equity issues in the classroom can sometimes lead to discussions that may be difficult, painful and controversial. As you know, it is important to create a safe and healthy environment for such discussions and we have some ideas and examples of basic principles you may find helpful in this process.
