Reflection: Equity and Inclusion at My School

This module is devoted to exploring our role as teachers and other school staff as facilitators of our students’ empowerment. This process will flourish in a school context that is fully welcoming and inclusive to all students; facilitating empowerment includes encouraging the emergence of their collective identities.

Our students grow and develop positive character attributes to the degree that they can identify and activate their own internal strengths and resources. As we discuss and explore throughout this module, character development without empowerment is simply not possible.

  • Whose voices are most audible in my school or classroom?
  • Whose voices are least audible?
  • What kinds of barriers might prevent my students from fully engaging with their learning or school life?
  • What groups of students in my school or classroom are hardest to reach, and what efforts are being made to reach out to and include them?
