Different Needs

Once schools have identified the different groups present among the members of their community, it is important to identify and accommodate people’s different needs. Sometimes, simple arrangements can transform an individual’s experience of school and vastly improve their sense of safety.

For example, if students have expressed the need, teachers can work with the school’s administration to provide the following accommodations.

  • A private and quiet place to pray
  • A gender-neutral bathroom (students who have been identified as trans-gendered can be invited to use the staff washroom)
  • A gay prom night
