Including Everyone

Be sure to include everyone in the discussion (without forcing them to take part). Some students are bound to be more open than others to discussing these topics. We may wish to draw out quieter students, yet questions directed to particular individuals may be experienced as stressful or uncomfortable.

It is important to respect students’ differences while at the same time striving to be as inclusive as possible. You can strike a balance by repeatedly inviting input from the larger group, posing questions that open the door to those who have not yet spoken without targeting them.
